A postdoctoral position funded by FCT will be available from the 1st of April 2012 (to be filled as soon as possible after that date) for 6 months renewable up to the 31st of March 2014. There is also the possibility of an additional extension (up to 12 months) beyond that date upon approval by the funding agency.
The appointed fellow will work in parallel simulations on the propagation of infectious diseases. The research activity will focus on the study of disease spread in geographically detailed populations, in particular on the study of stochastic effects due to finiteness of populations as well as co-evolution of viral strains (flu) in a global (world-wide) setting.
The successful candidate will be part of the Physics of Biological Systems group (
http://physbio.cii.fc.ul.pt/PBS/), which is hosted by the Centre for Condensed Matter Physics of the University of Lisbon. Applicants should have a PhD degree in physics, mathematics or informatics, and experience in simulations.
