Opportunities

Group openings

  • Our Research group "Physics of Biological Systems" has, from time to time, opportunities for students and researchers.
Please check the group page of the PBS Research Group for available positions.

Openings within my current activity

There are currently no openings within my current activity. However, if interested, you can still contact me to try accessing individual funding.
Individual funding for PhD and Post-doc positions can be obtained from the Portuguese Science Fundation (FCT, Portugal).
You can also check the Advanced Fellowships and Grants for further information.
  • [-]   Post-doc position (CLOSED)

A postdoctoral position funded by FCT will be available from the 1st of April 2012 (to be filled as soon as possible after that date) for 6 months renewable up to the 31st of March 2014. There is also the possibility of an additional extension (up to 12 months) beyond that date upon approval by the funding agency.

The appointed fellow will work in parallel simulations on the propagation of infectious diseases. The research activity will focus on the study of disease spread in geographically detailed populations, in particular on the study of stochastic effects due to finiteness of populations as well as co-evolution of viral strains (flu) in a global (world-wide) setting.

The successful candidate will be part of the Physics of Biological Systems group (http://physbio.cii.fc.ul.pt/PBS/), which is hosted by the Centre for Condensed Matter Physics of the University of Lisbon. Applicants should have a PhD degree in physics, mathematics or informatics, and experience in simulations.

To apply please send a detailed CV, motivation letter and two reference letters by email to:
Dr. Andrea Parisi: andreaparisi.physics@gmail.com or parisia@ptmat.fc.ul.pt

    or by post to:

The application will be open from the 13th of February until the 3rd of March 2011

The selected candidate will be notified by email. We expect to be able to inform about the result within the 9th of March.

Informal inquiries are welcome and should be addressed by email to Dr. Andrea Parisi.

  • [-]   Research grant (CLOSED)

A research grant funded by FCT will be available from the 1st of November 2011 for 9 months, to work on simulations on the propagation of infectious diseases. The research activity will focus on the study of analytical methods for the description of mutating viruses in the framework of disease spread in geographically detailed populations, under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Parisi and Prof. Ana Nunes.

The successful candidate will be part of the Physics of Biological Systems group (http://physbio.cii.fc.ul.pt/PBS/), which is hosted by the Centre for Condensed Matter Physics of the University of Lisbon. Applicants should have a Master degree in physics.

To apply please send a detailed CV and motivation letter by email to:
